Welcome to the Briarpatch Amateur Radio Club web page.

The  BRIARPATCH AMATEUR RADIO CLUB (BARC) serves amateur radio operators (hams) in the Galax, VA area.  Club members live in southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina .  The club maintains the Briarpatch Mountain repeater, W4BRC, 147.69/09.   It is active in several local events such as the March of Dimes Walkathon and MS Walk, conducts a weekly net on Tuesdays at 8 pm local time on W4BRC (see net page), awards the Charles Litz/Dave Nicholson Memorial Scholarship and has an active ARRL affiliated VE team.  If you have questions about the club, amateur exams or amateur radio in general please contact a club member or visit a regularly scheduled club meeting.  Anyone interested in amateur radio is welcome.

VE Schedule  **QUARTERLY**

2010 January 14, April 8

All test sessions begin at 7 pm.  Walk-ins are welcome.  Please bring two forms of ID (one picture ID if possible), the original and a copy of your current license and the original and a copy of any current CSCE if your license has not been updated since your last test.  Test sessions are held in the basement classroom #1 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, VA.  All FCC Amateur exams are available.  The current fee for 2009 which is allowed by the FCC and set by the ARRL-VEC will be charged.  A check made out to ARRL-VEC is acceptable.   Check here for further details prior to a test date.  This is an all volunteer group and all fees are forwarded to the ARRL-VEC. CURRENT COST IS $15.00.
